An air compressor is a motorised device that supplies compressed air to connected air tools. There are two main variations, electric compressors and petrol compressors. Electric air compressors are powered by electric motors and require a mains outlet to run. They are significantly quieter than petrol compressors and due to the fact they require a mains power outlet to run, they are mainly used inside buildings. Alternatively, petrol air compressors are powered by petrol motors and are significantly louder than their electric counterparts. However, they don’t require a mains power outlet and therefore can be used in a much wider variety of environments. They also tend to be more powerful than electric compressors and are ideal for use with heavy duty pneumatic tools.
