Product

A nailer is a tool designed to drive nails into a variety of materials such as steel, concrete, wood and metal. It significantly speeds up tasks traditionally undertaken with a hammer.

A handheld tool designed to drive staples into and therefore fasten together a variety of materials such as cardboard, soft metals and alloys, plastics, veneers, fabrics and wood (plywood, oak, MDF, ash pine and chip board)

Nail guns and staple guns fire fastenings into a variety of materials, at a far faster rate than more traditional methods, such as a hammer.

A first fix nailer is a nail gun designed for use on structural and heavy duty applications, whereas a second fix nailer is a nail gun designed for finish and trim applications.

Framing nailers, flooring nailers, roofing nailers and positive placement joist hanger nailers.

Finish nailers, brad nailers, pinner nailers.

* Finish nailer – Fires 14 gauge, 15 gauge and 16 gauge nails. Used for second fix applications that require a stronger hold.

* Brad nailer – Fires 18 gauge nails. Used as an alternative to finish nailers, where the splitting of wood may be an issue, as it uses smaller nails.

* Pinners – Fires 21 guage and 23 gauge pins. While it provides a weaker hold than both brad nailers and finish nailers, its appearance is virtually unnoticeabl

A brad nailer is used for second fix applications where the splitting of wood may be an issue, when used with a finish nailer. It fires smaller nails and therefore leaves smaller holes.

A finish nailer is used for second fix applications that require a stronger hold and therefore it uses larger nails than both brad nailers and pinners.

An air stapler, also known as a pneumatic stapler, or pneumatic air stapler, is a staple gun that uses compressed air to fire staples. The stapler is connected to an air hose, that is connected to an air compressor, which when fired transfers air from the compressor to the tool, via the air hose, firing the staples.

Mainly used in joist fastening applications, a corrugated fastener is a handheld tool that fires corrugated fasteners. As they provide more power than both nailers and staplers, they can be used on both hardwood and softwood

A pneumatic air tool is a tool that uses air to drive fastenings. The tool is connected to an air compressor via an air hose. When fired, air is transferred from the compressor to the tool, which then drives the fastenings. On the other hand, a cordless tool does not have any connection points and simply uses a battery, or a battery and fuel cells, to fire fastenings from the tool.

Brad nails tend to be 18 gauge nails, whereas finish nails tend to be 16 gauge nails and 15 gauge nails. This means finish nails are larger than brad nails, giving them a stronger hold when fired and a more noticeable appearance.

While both provide a certain level of corrosion resistance, stainless steel nails provide a far greater level of corrosion resistance. They are however also far more expensive than galvanised nails.

The main difference is the level of corrosion resistance offered. Stainless steel staples provide far greater levels of corrosion resistance, but galvanised staples are far cheaper.

While it is common for fastenings to be used across multiple tools, certain fastenings will only work with specific tools. If you are unsure whether a certain fastening will work with a specific tool, please contact us sales@pronailers.co.uk

Safety / Maintenance

There is no set limit on how long a tool can be used for, although the better a tool is maintained, the longer it will last. Some tools can be used for several years and some only for a few months.

While most tools have built in safety features, these are considered the last line of defence. There are several tasks / assessments you should undertake before even picking up your tool.

*  Make sure you have the correct training and understanding about the tool you intend to use

*  Wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

*  Inspect, maintain and correctly store tools before and after usage

*  Make sure you are using the correct fastenings for the tool you intend to use, otherwise you risk jamming and damaging the tool

There are a few simple tasks you can undertake to help maintain your tool and keep it lasting for longer.

*  Check for any loose, jammed or damaged parts before and after usage

*  Wipe down after usage

*  Properly store after usage

*  Make sure tools are regularly lubricated and oiled
