A pneumatic nail gun is a type of nailer that requires compressed air to function and is designed to fasten a variety of materials together. When the trigger is pulled on the tool, compressed air is supplied from the compressor to the tool, via an air hose, which causes the nailer to fire its nails. Pneumatic nailers can be grouped into two main categories, based on the type of application they are designed to be used for. These are known as first fix and second fix. First fix pneumatic nail guns are available in both strip and coil variations and are designed for heavier duty and structural applications. Common examples of first fix nailers include framing nailers, flooring nailers, roofing nailers, joist hanger nailers and T nailers. On the other hand, second fix pneumatic nail guns are produced almost exclusively in the strip variation and are designed for applications where a more aesthetic finish is required. Their downside is that they provide a weaker hold. Common examples of second fix nailers include brad nailers, finish nailers and pinners.
